For me it is a shame that I find very few current articles about the job that fathers do, and more importantly to me, the job that Black-American fathers do. But I did find this small blurb about a Middle School in MD that is doing thing the right way.

Kingsview Middle School, Montgomery County, MD – African American Father’s Circle

In an effort to increase the academic achievement of its African American male students, Kingsview Middle School created an African American Father’s Circle last year that meets monthly. With its AOL Aspirations grant, the father’s circle will be able to take students on college visits and host Family Math Nights, Family Reading Nights, Family Scrabble, Family Day at the SoccerPlex and a father/son basketball game. The focus will be on demonstrating how students can be academically successful, showing success strategies in math and reading, and getting families involved in education. Kingsview also plans to reach out to its two feeder elementary and high schools, getting fathers involved in their children’s education at all levels. Goals are to increase academic success and the number of students who qualify for advanced classes.
